Hello, friend!
I’m coming to you lakeside in Wisconsin on my annual framily vacation (that’s friends that are like family, for all you wondering). Yes, I am on vacation time, and yes, that’s why you’re receiving the Monday post on a Tuesday :-)
In the most embodied way possible, I’m practicing what it looks like to
Reconnect to What Matters
**Housekeeping Note: There will be no Wednesday or Friday posts for paid subscribers this week, in keeping with vacation time. Live into what matters, my friends. It’s the best thing you could do, anyway.
“Reconnect to what makes you happy and brings you Joy. If there is something that used to make you happy which you have stopped doing, do it again. Seek to find deeper meaning and significance rather than living on the surface.”
― Susan C. Young
In the spirit of August and reorientation, I am coming down from an incredibly busy couple weeks of work, and this break offers the breathing room to reconnect to what is important—not only in this season of life—but in my life, in general.
I’ve been feeling the lack of routine and connection points that grounded me, and I’m ready to build more structure around my priorities. These priorities include: writing in community, regular movement and strength training, being in nature, artistic play, and quality time with loved ones. As I start to look ahead, I can build practices of care into my schedule. There is joy in experimenting with my voice in community. There is greater grounding and strength in moving my body. There is a sense of peace in spending time in nature. My priorities will get more specific as I put them on the calendar.
But for now?
I’m still leaning into the soft reset vibes of August, so more than sitting down to figure out what it is I need to do beyond this week, I’m logging off and letting myself live into what is already available. I’m letting myself take the break this week affords and leave the rest until later.
Part of that, my friends, is to keep this post short and simple.
The most important part of living is the living. I have vision for what’s next, but what my brain and body need most right now is rest. I’m trying to honor that, and I hope you will do the same when you sense the need.
So, here’s what I’m going to be doing this week — leaning into presence, connection, sunshine, and friends.
How about you?
Are there any priorities you’re wanting to put (back) in place?
It’s worth it to consider the cues that have been coming to the surface over the last few weeks. What do you miss doing? What are you craving more of in your life? What needs are going unmet?
Do something that matters to you simply for the pleasure of it! Let yourself off the hook (of having to have it all together or get all the things done), and live into the moment you’re in.
Unplug, meet up with a friend you’ve been missing, leave your phone at home on purpose. Take a swim, lie in the sun, read a book that doesn’t teach you a darn thing. Write poetry, pet the dog, dance it out, laugh.
