Monthly Edition: Sticky Situations
We can't escape them, but we sure as (you know what) can get through them
“You're not the situation you're in!”
— K.M. JOHNSON
Sticky situations. We’ve all been in them. We’ve watched others wade through them, too.
Picture this:
At the start of this year, you decided that you were going to make connecting with friends a priority. Every couple of weeks, you think to yourself, I’ve gotta send out a text and get plans on the books. Still, a few days pass, and you aren’t able to bring yourself to follow through. There is an inner resistance you just can’t kick.
Or, maybe it’s something like this:
You had your hopes on getting that promotion at work. You put in the hours, did all that was asked of you, and then some, only to be in the same position months later. You just heard that Bob got the promotion instead of you. You can’t kick the disappointment.
Or, you find yourself having a day where you feel completely consumed by big feelings, and you don’t know how to get back to a base level of calm. You feel distant from yourself, and you’re not quite sure how to get back to a grounded point of connection.
Does any of this sound familiar? Though the specific situations might look different, the challenges can be similar. When it comes to building and maintaining inner connection, difficulties can’t be escaped, but they can be worked through. We can experience hard things, and we can also come back to ourselves over and over again. All is not lost.
This month’s theme is meant to be a beacon and a guide through common inner struggles.
We’ll look at WHAT TO DO WHEN:
Navigating Resistance Experiencing Disappointment Big Feelings Take Over Needs Aren’t Met
We will focus on how to navigate difficult situations with presence instead of spinning our wheels or distracting ourselves from the issue(s) we can’t escape. We all face these challenges throughout our lives, and they’re not too difficult to overcome. We can find a way through, and we can do it with presence, connection, and compassion.
What kinds of sticky situations have you faced this year?
How have they affected your internal world?
Consider if there is a specific skill (coping or the like), emotion, or experience you’d like to work through this month.
